Shenandoah National Park

Just outside Washington, DC sits Shenandoah National Park. Created in the 1920s as a presidential escape from the smothering heat and humidity of the capital, the park boasts the spectacular Skyline Drive, which connects straight to the Blue Ridge Parkway and allows leisurely drivers to traverse a mountain range that will take you straight to North Carolina.

We first visited the park in October 2010 and have returned numerous times for hikes and camping. This collection is an assortment of pictures from all of them. Click on any image to begin exploring a park that felt like our own private get away from the District.
