Crater Lake National Park - June 2016

Another trip west, another national park. This time we stopped in Oregon to see the deepest lake in North America - and the clearest water! Researchers lowered a visual aid about 180 feet before they could no longer see it. Crater Lake was formed when a volcano literally blew its top, removing thousands of feet from its top and spreading rock for miles. Right next to the crater is the Pumice Desert, which is home to a flat landscape of sand and rock created from the explosion. Millions of years of snow runoff and rainwater have since filled the crater and given us one of the world's most hypnotizing shades of blue. We had a unique opportunity to freely walk along the rode on the back half of the crater rim due to large amounts of snow not yet melted. It was as if we had the place to ourselves.
